Victorian 786g Solid Silver Desk Pen Tray Stand Cut Glass Inkwell J Round 1894
The cut glass (crystal?) inkwell bottle appears to
be original to the stand and is offered in good antique condition. There
are no chips or cracks only the odd minor nibble commensurate with age.
It measures approximately 8.75cm across and 7.2cm high, excluding
mount. The only negative to this inkwell is that the mount has become
detached from the bottle and has a split on the collar. My jeweller has
inspected the lid and believes it could be repaired simply and remounted
without issue, if required. The hinge is in good working order. The
maker of the lid is different to that of the tray but my research into
this maker indicates he specialised in making mounted cut-glass objects
to fit other items and as the date letters both indicate 1894, in my
opinion it is original to the tray, however, please see pictures and
make up your own mind. The maker is Henry Manton of Birmingham and the
piece dates to 1894, like the tray. Again, please note this item has not
been cleaned professionally.
